Youth Director

Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church is a diverse and dynamic community located in the heart of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. We utilize creative means of expressing our adoration for God in worship, as we seek to challenge one another to grow and mature as followers of Jesus Christ. In the midst of an ever-evolving urban culture, we believe God is actively engaging us in the pursuit of relationship with him, and cooperation in his redemptive work in the world.

Our youth and student ministries seeks to lead our young adults to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, devoted to his teaching and his purpose in using us in the ministry of his kingdom. Our youth are the not simply the future, but a vital component to the present make-up of the community of God’s people.

We are currently seeking a part-time (15 hours/week) youth director. If you are interested in this position, please submit:

    PURPOSE

    To represent the Youth Ministries program on staff and support the youth leads in organizing Sunday and mid-week programs and events, and to develop student and youth leaders' ownership in the program.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Having a deep personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

  • Ability to relate to and work effectively with youth, exhibiting creativity, understanding and patience.

  • Have a fun personality while able to be serious.

  • Appreciate the unique strengths of youth while being able to handle the challenges as well.

  • Ability to develop leadership in volunteers and students.

  • College degree and post graduate work related to the field of education or Christian ministry or the equivalent of three years ministry experience.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the Youth volunteers in fulfilling the mission of the Youth ministry by helping the youth to figure out who they are in Christ through engagement with the bible, worship, prayer, relationships with youth and members of CHP and application of their faith in real life situations.

  • Organize, delegate and support volunteers in planning and executing Middle and High ministry programs. These include the Summit--Sunday morning Youth class-small groups, special events, retreats, and mission projects.

  • Manage the communication of program: activities, needs and plans to Students, Parents, youth leaders, Staff and Youth Ministry Team.

  • Help the Youth Ministry Team leader prepare and lead the regular youth ministry team meetings.

  • As time allows, initiate contact with students in order to build relationships wherein the gospel can be communicated through words and actions. Relational time with students may include such activities as lunch at their school, attending extra-curricular activities, hiking, going out for ice cream, and overnights with small groups.

  • Maintain personal spiritual and professional growth through regular prayer, worship, bible study, and meeting with an accountability partner or group.

  • Participate in weekly staff meeting.

  • ACCOUNTABILITY

    Youth Ministry Team Leader, Pastor, Session.

    Performance Evaluation:

    Regular check-ins with pastor for support, encouragement and accountability. During the first year, performance reviews will be conducted after 3 months and 1 year by the head of staff, assisted by Personnel Committee with input Youth and youth leaders. Thereafter, performance reviews will be conducted annually. Personnel Committee with input from YMT will annually review the adequacy of compensation.

    Summary of Terms:

    Date of Employment: September 1, 2010

    Working Title: Youth Director

    Type of Employment: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt, 15 hours per week

    Vacation Pay: Two and a half (2.5) days paid vacation leave; additional days pro-rata per CHPC Employee Handbook for continuous employment with CHPC beyond 1 year.

    Sick Leave: 5 days (40 hours) paid sick leave, upon completion of 3 months of employment

    Expenses: Up to $100/month as determined by CFMT; Up to one week tuition and expenses for qualifying continuing education

    Performance Evaluation: First Year: 3 mos, 1 year. After First Year: Annually
